First we head off to Viminacium Archaeological Park. The archaeological site occupies a total of 450 hectares, and contains remains of temples, streets, squares, amphitheatres, palaces, hippodrome and Roman baths. More than 14,000 graves and unique gold and silver jewellery have been found so far. Visitors are welcomed by soldiers dressed as Ancient Romans and wine is drunk from replicas of Roman goblets. After seeing the prehistoric skeleton of a 5,000 year old mammoth, we will head to POZAREVAC to visit the town museum and see more finds from Viminacium. Then we will continue to Smederevo Fortified Town the largest medieval lowland type fortress in Europe. It is encircled by 1.5km of crenulated walls over 2m thick with 25 towers, each 25m tall. We will walk on its massive walls, climb the wooden stairs to reach its towers and enjoy splendid view of the Danube and the island across the river.
