What made the covered parisian passages so special when they were created two centuries ago ? They were reserved for pedestrians, linking two streets with a covered passageway. They were filled with shops and covered to shelter from bad weather. They were lit with skylights and artificial light. Passages and galleries were created from properties confisquated from the Church during the French Revolution, real estate speculation by the new bourgeoisie and the progress of the use of iron and glass in construction. Many passages disappeared, victims of the urban work launched by Napoleon 3 and realized by the Baron Haussmann. The remaining passages are coming alive once again. During the two hour visit, taking you from the Palais Royal to the Faubourg Montmartre, you will discover five of these restored monuments, each with its distinctive atmosphere.
