Here will visit the charming old quarter, with its picturesque fishing harbour, Spanish Fort & Andalusian quarter. After lunch we continue to Cap Blanc, the northernmost point of Africa. We have a drive through the agricultural heartland of the country via Sejnane to Tabarka. Tabarka was the main port of Roman Africa, from which the much coveted Chemtou marble and beasts for the amphitheatres were exported to the rest of the Empire,Later an important base of the Genoese Lomellini family who commanded a ship in the Battle of Lepanto. We will explore the charming town in the bay, with its Genoese fortress and “the Needles” – eerie sandstone formations. Some leisure time to enjoy Tabarka’s pristine sandy beaches & overnight. Day 2: Today we drive through the native cork oak forests of the Khroumirie Mountains to the alpine town of Ain Draham. we reach the Unesco World Heritage site of Bulla Regia. The capital of ancient Numidia, Bulla Regia is renowned for its unique subterranean mansions. The villas – which belonged to the wealthy landowners of the Roman era – still have their magnificent mosaic floors in situ. This “Numidian” marble was much prized for its pink, orange & yellow hues by the Romans and can be found throughout the Mediterranean. We cross the Medjerda valley to Dougga (also a Unesco World Heritage site) – the most famous and best preserved Roman city in Tunisia . Here we explore the theatre, forum, baths, majestic Capitolium temple , Libyo-Punic mausoleum & residential quarters. We depart via charming Testour, a village settled by Andalusian refugees in the 17th century. Return to Hammamet / Tunis.
