Overview

This tour features the most beautiful and important Serbian Orthodox monasteries and churches. Many of them are included into UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Our first stop will be the town of KRUSEVAC, the medieval capital of Serbia in the 14th century. Then we will continue to the MONASTERY OF KALENIC (15th century) to admire some of the finest frescoes painted in medieval Serbia. Afterwards, we continue to the MONASTERY OF ZICA (13th c.), where the majority of Serbian kings were crowned and the first seat of the Serbian Archbishopric. Then we will drive through the Valley of River Ibar and reach mountain Golija and STUDENICA MONASTERY (12th c.), the crowning achievement of culture and art in medieval Serbia. Next day we will visit ST. PETER’S CHURCH (9th c.), the oldest Serbian Orthodox church. It is located on the outskirts of Novi Pazar and historically linked with OLD RAS (8th c.), the first Serbian capital. We will also visit ST. GEORGE’S PILLARS (12th c.) built on the top of a hill which offers a splendid view of the surroundings. At SOPOCANI MONASTERY (13th c.), we will see the most beautiful examples of European painting at that time. The last monastery we will visit is the LJUBOSTINJA MONASTERY (15th c.) to admire its beautiful exterior decoration.
