We will travel through rolling hills and peaceful countryside to Sumadia – Forest Land. In the small town of Topola, we will visit the home of the founder of the Karageorgevic dynasty, Karageorge. Today it is a museum of the First Serbian Uprising in the 19th century. In his small burial church, we will see a minutely carved wooden icon screen. Then we will visit the Church of Saint George at Oplenac Hill built by Karageorge’s grandson King Peter I. The church was decorated with wall mosaics made of 40 million glass cubes, in 15000 shades. In the centre of the church, you will see a chandelier made of weapons used by Serbian Soldiers in World War I. Tombs of members of the Royal dynasty are in the crypt which is also decorated in wonderful mosaics. Afterwards, we will visit a Home of King Peter the I, whose reign started a new phase in modern Serbia. In the end, we will go to the Royal wine cellar to taste excellent wine and see the old equipment and wooden barrels used for wine processing.
