It is said that the best way to get to know a place is not to travel hastily, but to observe the details, and to enjoy the scents and sounds of nature. To interact and meet with the locals in order to come to an understanding of the history and culture of the land you have visited. These aspects can be enjoyed at their best through cycling. Leading Guests invites you to discover a beautiful and interesting piece of the Cretan landscape from the seat of a bike. Daily Program: By minibus you will be driven from your hotel further inland, leaving behind the city and the Northern coastline. On your arrival at the village of Fotinos, set exactly between the Northern and Southern coasts of the island, we meet up with the Leading Guests team with all the gear necessary for the day (helmets, maps etc.) From here we leave the village behind us, and take the country road out to the valley of Armeni. On route we will enjoy the lush vegetation and Cretan oaks of the island, eventually making our first stop at the Late Minoan site of Armeni. A Necropolis-Bronze age Burial site. Here we shall witness the secrets of a civilization that dates back as far as 33,000 years from today with the help of our guide. From here we will continue our cycling, taking a path along the North side of Mount Vrysinas (858 m.) and marveling at the stunning view of the city of Rethymno and its outskirts. After cycling for 1,5km we will reach the village of Rousospiti, where under the shade of a large tree (oak-Plane) we will rest and enjoy a lovely BBQ lunch with an array of refreshing beverages. Our next stop will be the hospitable convent of Ag Eirini, famed for its work shops specializing in iconography, textiles and local crafts. From the convent we will set off down hill, taking the country road through the settlement of Kastelakia, and arriving at the end of our route and adventure. We will return to our hotel feeling light as a feather after our ride. Our mind, body and soul uplifted by our experiences and new-found knowledge of the island of Crete.
A day full of cycling, nature and culture!
