Drottningholm Castle is the official residence of the King of Sweden since 1981.
Located on the island of Lovon ( Ekero) and much of the complex is open to the public.
Designed by the architect Nicodemus Tessin has a rich history.
It used to be a summer residence for the Royal Family. In 1800 , the Castle was gifted to Queen Louise Ulrike and redesigned it in a French Rococo style.
The complex includes:
– the Main Palace Building,
– the Court Theatre ( from 1800),
– the Baroque Gardens & extensive grounds
We meet at Stockholm City Hall ferry station ( Pier 5) for a mini cruise across Lake Malaren and enjoy a visit to the whole area.

Since 1926 , steamer boats are the main link for the small communities by the shores of Lake Malaren.
Nowadays, they connect Stockholm with Drottningholm Castle, the official residence of H.M. the King of Sweden.
