Overview

Smaller than nearby Pompeii, Herculaneum was a peacefull town founded, according to the legend, by Hercules. It was wiped out by the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and buried under a thick layer of mud that has perfectly preserved the houses, shops, villas and frescoes beneath. Herculaneum gives to all the visitors a vivid picture of how Roman life looked like 2000 years ago.

<p>The tour starts from the ticket office. From the beginning you can see the Ancient shore of Herculaneum where during recent excavations Archaeologists found the bodies of the victims gathered into the boat houses. Crossing a path we'll stop into the small museum where a wooden boat is displayed along with several artifacts found on the shore. During the visit you'll walk trhough the narrow caridnes ( alleys going north-south) flanked by spectacular houses, Thermal baths and shops like Thermopolia and Bakeries.</p>
