The museum is a small facility with a correspondingly small, yet impressive selection of artifacts with a definite emphasis on quality of exhibits as opposed to quantity. Most of the antiquities on display at the Luxor Museum hail from the Luxor region and include items from the Luxor Temple’s hidden cache that was discovered in 1989. Other objects of interest include a cow-goddess head from the tomb of Tutankhamun, a statue of Tuthmosis III and a reconstructed wall from the ninth pylon of the Temple of Karnak. A small but interesting collection of artifacts related to the ancient Egyptian practice of mummification can be found at this facility, located close to the Mina Palace Hotel in the heart of Luxor city centre. Among the exhibits on display at the popular Museum of Mummification are the mummified remains of a cat, a fish, a crocodile and the various tools used in the actual mummification process.
