Herculaeum and Mount Vesuvius – Shore Excursion

The thriving Roman city met its fate in 79 A. D. , when Mount Vesuvius erupted. The volcanic ash from Mt. Vesuvius buried the entire town with many of its inhabitants. Herculaneum is much smaller but better preserved than Pompeii. While Pompeii had been covered in four to five meters of ashes, an avalanche of muds 20 meters thick had buried Herculaneum. Second stories, carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings and mosaics are still preserved. With my explanation I’ll make the city come to life. The tour starts with a two hour guided tour at Herculaneum with me. Lunch break in a typical Italian restaurant tasting some good wine and some traditional dishes. After lunch the driver will take you to Mount Vesuvius. A 20 minutes walk is needed to reach the highest part of the crater, where local guides are waiting that give the visitors a short guidance (included in the cost of the ticket). Half hour guidance at the crater with a volcanological guide.
